I think the Wiki's are very innovative. I know that I could use it to post information for many of my classmates to view. If they have more information they can add to what I have and if my information is inaccurate, they can correct it. Wiki's have many great benefits.

This is my first time using a Wiki, this is genius I thought Wikipedia was a bunch of former Encyclopedia writers switched their work online. I am in my second semester of degree in computer programming and I could use a Wiki to help explain different code languages.

You're project definitely sounds interesting. I also started out with the aproach of creating my own JSP/Servlet-based application, however after a few months of development I realized that it would take too much time to completely support the wide range of features I wanted. Open source is a beautiful thing ;)

I'm glad you asked about the Philosopher timeline. I've been slowing digging back into my Semantic Philosophy DB project over the last couple weeks. I've been alternating between doing research, taking notes, creating mindmap summaries, and experimenting with SMW. Definitely hoping to have something to showcase in the next month or two.

Thanks for the kind comment Eric! I've actually been following your blog for a little while (there's even a link to one of your posts on mind maps and software engineering in my del.icio.us bookmarks, take a look on the right :) ).

And yes I'm indeed quite interested in your usage of Semantic MediaWiki. My final project in Software Engineering consisted in the creation of a personal AJAX/Java Servlets wiki app (a bit like TiddlyWiki but with a server-side component) that could ultimately support semantic abilities. But once finished I did not pursue this road, since I figured for personal use it'd be too much hassle to encode the information and I wouldn't have enough real use cases in my daily life (well, that I could see for the moment).

Have you followed on your idea of using Semantic MediaWiki for a Philosophers timeline? Have you reused SMW semantic abilities in other contexts? (referring to this post of yours: http://eric-blue.com/2008/05/14/semantic-wikis-and-faceted-browsing-the-ultimate-knowledge-database/)

Hi,

Great article on Wikis and PKM (consider me subscribed)! I've never tried out Wikidpad, but it looks promising. You might be interested to know that I'm also using a Wiki (Semantic MediaWiki) for all of my knowledge management activities. Feel free to checkout:

Hey François,

Great intro to personal wikis. You also might want to check out Luminotes at http://luminotes.com/

It's a personal wiki focused on organizing your notes and making links between them.
